Back from MREA (Midwest Renewable Energy Association)

Unbelievable.  That was the type of community feel (the caliber of people and foci, not the number of people) that I'd like to live, not just visit.  It was full of intelligent informed passionate often intense but somehow still laid back dialogue, a rennaisance of technology, some of it bound to catch on and catch on in a big way, old hippies (I'm serious...perhaps well more than half the people there were 50-something or over), and bumper stickers like "It's a Planet Not an Empire" and that ever common Coexist one.

Unlike most places, there was virtually no litter.  The toilets (alright...porta potties) were all clean (after all that water, I visited about 20 of them).  The dinnerware was composted or otherwise recycled, picked up in leg powered two person vehicles.  Many or most at the fair were carrying around their own metal lined water bottles or canteens instead of buying drinks in traditional plastic bottles or cans.  I had my trusy camping knive-sporks with me.  Some people went a step further and brought their own dinner plates.

The concept of "respect the Earth, respect your neighbor" went incredibly deep to a practical level, political, spiritual and often religious level and there was something for all religions that fit into this scenario from Christianity's "Love thy neighbor" to agnostic and Pagan concepts of Gaia, Mother Nature as Goddess(es), and so on.

It was invigorating.  Le big huge sigh!

(I have never seen so many men with white or graying ponytails congregated in one place in my life!)

Hi, I am actually commenting on your blog about Faith, Search for Truth etc, and Paschals wager.
Forgive the spelling, I do not have spell check here .
I agree with this:
"faith is not a synonym for religion"
and here we get into some kind of philosophical discussion about 'truth' etc. therefore it is important to define what you mean by these words and here people get into trouble because a lot of people just accept what the words mean 'to them' and argue without having any common ground.
Most people do not delve into subjects as deeply as you do.
forgive me, I am rambling, don't really know what my point is or if I even had one, but your topics are as usual, thought provoking and educational,at least to me.
I have no problem with Pashcal's wager per say, if you take it to mean: live as if a Higher Power, A divine source, and infinite intelligence (and I am not refering here to 'intelligent design' as the anti evolutionists mean it) actualy exists. Oh crap, I can not spell today, my brain is in brain fog mode and I have a lot to say but lack the words right now.. anyhow, hopefuly more on this subject later....I enjoyed this.... Peace and love to you.

Oh, I don't mind your rambling at all.  Hope you don't mind my rants, he he.

Not sure if that's what you mean?  Personally, there are so many more reasons to live according to high standards, with great passion, healthy awe, compassion, and joy than a cosmic hierarchy, something the term "higher power" seems to denote and stress, as if answering to some One whatever is the key?  I dunno, I don't get it -- I have a humbling yet exhilarating and deeply spiritual sense of how connected our lives are to much in the universe/community/nation yet I have trouble connecting personal excellence and divine anything with "higher power."  I'm not anti-authoritarian, an anarchist, or against all hierarchy, it has its uses and purpose, but I still think the term "higher power" is a skewed term favorable to monism's or monotheism's understanding of things (where a cosmic hierarchy is rather the theme), and I subscribe to neither.

I can go with the term "the powers that be" or "a life well examined" because such terms don't necessarily step into cosmic hierarchical doo doo, are open to interpretation, can be used in just about any religion, and allow for discussion of all that goes into making us and life full, compassionate, excellent, connected, inspired, spiritually enriched and deep.

Truth?  Yeah, you're so right.  How many people ever look that word up...in their entire life?  Or the word "reality," because part of the definition of truth is that it involves that which conforms to reality...yet even as people share reality, we also each have a unique reality.  There is no one reality.  One culture's/religion's/era's reality is another's weirdness.  There is no one art or discipline sufficient for examination and inquiry.  Science can't answer everything.  That'd be scientism.  Religion can't answer everything -- that'd be religionism.  Often, to approach life, a multidisciplined approach is needed and throws open many a window and door.

Most of what we know as "true" usually needs to be tweaked (often majorly) or discarded anyway.  What a trip!  Yet humans seem to have a bloodlust for truth and especially for politically loaded "the truth."  We are funny monkeys, indeed.  Rest assured, if humanity survives a couple more hundred or thousand years, many of our truths will look silly and outdated indeed.

Blessings!

I love the term the Powers that be.. And what is 'true' today maybe be disproved tomorrow, In my opinion there is a "Truth" with a capitol T but it is seen differently by any one and everyone.. this is the way I define it at this point in my life Truth is what does not change, facts change, life changes, water changes, we are in a constant state of flux, but what I mean by Truth is a combination of 'What is So" The cause and source of all the energy in the universe, That which moves the wind, that which caused the big bang... etc.. could be science, could be God/ Goddess/ It does not matter to me what you call it. I am still struggling to define what I relate to in Paschals wager. I think what it means to me, is live your life as if life IS sacred, as if Life Is Connected, that what you do to the earth matters, that what you send out in vibrations, prayers, energy, matters.. Also, although I feel myself to be a part of All That Is, I feel I am just a part, and if I live as if I am the only part, then I am a stupid person. I want to remain open, questioning, learning what ever there is to learn, and trying to understand other's view points until my last breath in this body. Your blogs are awe inspiring at times because they spur my thought processes !!
Thanks for sharing....

@Rosemoss - Yup.

Yup.  The moment we stop learning, being open in some ways, then we start dying inside.
